Wow, it's been over a year since I posted here. Did you miss me? I doubt it but I'm back all the same.
I put weight back on, I'm losing it again and losing it well, I'm even dropping down from a 20 to a perfect 18 and getting smaller. It been hard work and there's been ups and downs but I'm getting there. I am annoyed, because I wanted to be at least 2 stone lighter than I was at the start of the year but weightloss isn't a race, it's a gradual process.
One of the biggest ups has been that my BP has dropped significantly along with my weight (though that's probably a combo of weightloss and the BP drugs I've been given) however, my doctor is impressed enough that my last appointment with him only lasted 4 minutes. (trust me, that's an improvement)
I think I just like myself more these days.

I Return
Well, I'm back.
I have probably put back on the weight I lost because for the last few weeks I've been fighting off a particularly virulent cold virus - all I've really been able to think about is getting an iced lolly into my mouth because it stopped the burning in my throat for a few minutes (I haven't even visited Jenny in the last few weeks, just so I don't spread it to Kidlet1 and Kidlet2 - She has new cookbooks for us to look through as well)
Still, getting upset will not make me have not put on weight so I won't sit here and type out a tale of woe. All I can do is get back on track and I've started today. Back to following WW's 'filling and healthy' plan and I've breakfasted on mini shredded wheats with 0% greek yogurt and a sliced banana, not forgetting my mug of black coffee (a habit I've picked up from Work, because they only have Full or Semi-Skimmed)
Another thing I think I shall do today is measure out 2 liters of water into a jug and I'll try and drink from it all day - one of my problems is that I don't drink enough
I'm back on track, back in a healthy eating plan frame of mind and ready to get into my dress for Jenny's wedding

Challenges
Today is Saturday, I weighed....turns out the week of salads, shoving fluid down my throat, combined with the hours on my feet and the unimaginable boredom at work (did a lot of shifts this week) have paid off and I'm rewarded with 3lbs off :)
I've spent all week avoiding sweets, biscuits, chocolate, junk food, etc - and believe me, I've faced some serious temptation, can hardly turn a corner at work without someone offering you cake or a biscuit. Some people even seem to take it as a challenge when you tell them that you're on a healthy eating plan, I half expect some of my work mates to try and shove biccies down my throat.
Which made me think about a few weeks ago - a work mate (who, incidentally, was thin and kept complaining about how fat she was, but only when sitting next to me) kept offering me a leftover doughnut. I kept turning it down. The cheeky mare even at one point, after I joked about my younger brother being able to eat his own weight in cake whereas I only need to look at the stuff and I put on a stone, asked if I 'ate a lot of cake and junk at home then?'
After about 2 hours of her not getting the message and still trying to get me to eat a stale jam doughnut ('You're SURE you don't want it?' 'You're SURE you don't want this doughnut?' You're SURE you don't want this doughnut? It'll go to waste') all I want to shout at her was: "No. Unbelievable as it may seem, the fat girl does NOT want a sodding doughnut!"
It seems to be that even though being overweight is deemed a sin in the media, tell people you're trying to lose weight and they'll go out of their way to try and tempt you into staying overweight. Or maybe they're meanly testing your willpower, thinking you'll never stick to it and seeing you break down gives them some sort of twisted pleasure.
Well, today I don't care about them.

Shades of Grey
One thing about my mental state when I'm following a healthy eating plan is that sometimes I forget about the shades of grey and look at everything as being completely black or completely white i.e. either I'm following the plan so perfectly that I'm living on nothing but salad and steamed veggies, or I'm (metaphorically) living on nothing but fast food and chocolate.
My tendency is to think 'oh crap, that's torn it. Whole healthy eating plan's out the window' when I eat something I didn't plan on eating and not focusing on what I'd done right - like going to the gym, like power-walknig and drinking more fluids
For example, today I've eaten 4 little boiled sweets and a nibble of chocolate and I can feel the small voice in the back of my head telling me that "Oh, you f***ed up now! You've put on a stone! Sod this!"
I'm taking deep breaths and drinking diet cola now
Short and sweet,

Busy Tuesdays
Today I've done a lot of power-walking - I even skipped the gym this morning because I'd arranged to go power walking with Jenny. We were joined by her OH, Kidlet1 and Kidlet2, we went from their house up to the park near where they live then down to look at some farmland. It was really entertaining as, aside from chatting with Jenny (always fun!) Kidlet1, being 3 years old, is really bloody fearless and threw himself down the slide in the park with such a lot of force that twice he missed the rubber-mat-thing under the slide and landed on the grass. This stopped when his father caught on and started standing in front of it to catch him.
After spending lunch (lamb burgers with salad, goat's cheese and potatoes) and a little bit of the afternoon with Jenny & Co - good time had by all, chocolate lollies eaten by Jenny's OH and Kidlet1 - my Bloke and I spent some time with his mother and step-father as we haven't seen them for a little bit.
When I got home I found out that my mother was going for a walk to a local beach with her friend Susan - anyone who knows me well will know I love the beach, so I shamelessly invited myself.
We had a fabulous walk, a little bit muddy but the views were absolutely spectacular and the sound of the sea is one of my favourite soothing noises. Along the way we found some wild garlic and sampled it...yes, we were very fragrant and I can still taste it in the back of my throat despite having brushed my teeth and gargled mouthwash! (I think I'm lucky that I like garlic)
I even got to walk along the beach, something I didn't get to do last year. I picked up some shells, just because I could, photographed the sea and came across a HUGE, extremely dead, Jelly Fish - I'm not sure if it looked huge because it really was or just because it was dead. I only went up to have a look as, from a distance, it looked like a large rock stuck in the sand by the sea and I thought it would make a good photo.
I think today's been a good day as I haven't been as strict so far this week, food-wise, as I was last week, and whilst there's still time for me to pull back, I can really feel all the calories I've burnt off today.
And now the God of Sleep is calling me, some people find that exercise makes them hungry but I find instead that I sleep extremely well and, as I'm Dyspraxic and part and parcel of it is occasional trouble sleeping; this can only be a good thing.

First Post
OK, how to start this? Probably by introducing myself - I'm Kate, I'm 28, happily in a relationship with my bloke, proud owner of a very clumsy tortoiseshell cat and this is my blog about my attempts at losing weight.
I'm going to try not to bore you with calorie content, carbs, juices or diet pills, because I'm not following any celebrity diet plan, I'm just following a healthy eating and exercise one. I like to think I'm not the only one that has problems staying on a plan.
At the moment I'm aiming to slim my size-18/20 body down to a size-14 one, in order to fit into a nice dress, that I deliberately bought in a size 14 to keep me motivated.
I'm aided in this quest by my good friend Jenny - that's not her real name, by the way. In the interest of respecting everyone else's privacy, the only real name I'll use in this blog is mine - Jenny's getting married at the end of the year and is determined to fit into her dream wedding dress. I feel she's got a bit of an advantage over me in this weight-loss thing as she has two lovely, very active toddlers (henceforth affectionately known in future posts as Kidlet1 and Kidlet2) who keep her very much on her toes.
A problem that both Jenny and I face is that we both love to bake - nothing makes us drool quicker than a brand new cook book and we're always challenging each other to cook something new. It's just a shame that most of the recipes aren't low fat and everyone knows that before a chef serves a dish, they should always taste it first just in case it tastes terrible (we don't complain until we stand on the scales. We should've known the chocolate cake diet was too good to be true ;) )
On the upside, we can both claim we're prize-winning bakers since entering a recent local bake off. I'm not surprised Jenny won a prize, the Fudgey Lemon Squares she makes are deliciously, sinfully, zesty....and there I go talking about Treat-Food
Today being Saturday, it's my Treat-Day, which means it's the longest possible time before I have to weigh again, so I eat whatever I want, within reason.
Since Wednesday, when I weighed for the first time, I've managed to lose 3lbs - not bad. It looks like the half hour in the early morning at the gym, combined with the healthy eating, is paying off.
There is a reason I go just as the gym opens. To avoid Gym-Bunnies.
I'll explain about those in my next post - the cat is nagging me to feed her.
